Two Months Off

Hi all,
I just want to start by saying it has been a day of pain! It has been two days in a row now that I have been up and out at the crack of dawn! To rub some salt into my wounds I discovered half way into downloading this mornings catch that my hard drive on the computer is full (no surprise there I guess) so I have just spent the best part of 4 hours backing up, editing downloading and redownloading and backing up again before I could even think about anything else. I don’t want to loose any of the images that have been taken so far (even the junk)

A big thank you to all who have posted comments on the last post.

So apart from the above what else have I been up to? well errr, nothing, but if the clouds disappear I might head over to Red Canyon to get some sunset shots, (very little sleep for me then!) Tomorrow I head over to Zion for only two nights, but by the way people have been talking this might have been a bit of a mistake. This morning I have met a load of nice people, some have been suggesting places to go, unfortunately I don’t think I will be able to make some but hopeful to make it to some (only time will tell)

Ok enough of me and more of the catch.

One of the trails down into Bryce Canyon (an easier walk than Grand Canyon)

I know you want to see “Rusty” right, well here he is

Rusty at Bryce Canyon (one of a few)

That’s it for today, I’m not sure about the internet access at my next few stops, but I shall post when I can.
If you have left a comment and can’t see it, it’s because I haven’t un-screened then yet.
If you like any of my photographs, please contact me first!!!!!!! (email address located in the user info section)(or I will start covering the images in more watermarks and you will not be able to see, worse I will stop posting photographs altogether!)

Thank you for taking the time to view today’s posting, hope you are enjoying the show, I know I am, I bet you wish you could see the best photographs I have taken! well another time and another place.

Take care

(Coming up next : Zion, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Yellowstone NP.)

Two Months Off

Hi all and welcome to any new comers.

I’m at Bryce Canyon Utah! but before I talk about Bryce I want to go back to Arizona and Page.
If you get the chance or if your planning a trip around this area then you must allow a good few days if not a week, a day or so is not enough to cover all the interesting things to photograph and see around here. I would like to thank Charly Moore who owns “Overland Canyon Tours” www.overlandcanyontours.com the service his company offers is great, his advice to me was to visit the area in spring or fall. If you know when your going give him 3 months notice and he will hopefully get you on to the WAVE, and other very interesting places.

My trip to Antelope Canyon was interesting to say the least, the place is great but to many people are being toured down this crack in the landscape, I personally think they should charge a bomb to visit it as it is well worth it.

“Antelope Canyon, Arizona”

“Antelope Canyon, Arizona”

The drive from Page to my hotel just on the edge of Bryce took around three hours, the journey was a little boring as not much to see on the road, a few stops on the way to refuel myself.
As you get closer to Bryce on highway 12, come drive through a place called “Red Canyon” now this place is worth a stop, it’s free for start! and if you get there late afternoon you will catch the rocks at there best.

“Red Canyon, Utah”

I checked into my hotel “Bryce Canyon Resort” this place is just on the corner turn off road into Bryce Canyon, it will only take you 10 mins to the park entrance from here. I spent the late afternoon chatting to the Rangers for the best times and places to photograph in the canyon, once the talking was over I headed into the area to scope it out for myself. The Canyon it’s self is facing towards the East so the you will get good shots early morning and afternoon. I headed to the far end of the Canyon first.

“Bryce Canyon, Utah” (at kind of sunset)

I woke up really early and headed for the sunrise at 6.07am (I was there around 5.30am) The sunrise is a must, just to watch the sun popping up and slowly lighting the canyon was great, OK and early start but no one around, well almost no one, me and around 50 bambi’s jumping around the place.

Sun rise at Bryce Canyon (just after 6.00am)

A view overlooking Bryce Canyon towards the Northwest.

At the moment in the park they are burning down selected trees in certain areas (this is allow for growth and change in habitat) it’s hard to capture the sense of the place, the smoke and smell of the wood burning was amazing.

Bryce Canyon in the smoke.

I hope you have enjoyed today’s update, tomorrow I will be up early again to capture a different part of the Canyon at sun rise, and hopefully more canyon shots for you, and before you ask “Rusty” has been out and he will show up on the next update (just in-case you were asking)

Take care and thanks for viewing,

Jonathan Fridlington.

P.S. any comments welcome, and don’t forget your tripod if your going to these places!!!
