Brooklyn Bridge – New York

Posted in Architecture, Travel Photography on August 15th, 2009 by Jonathan

What do you do when the weather isn’t good for photographing? Well I guess many things and actually is the weather ever good or bad I guess it depends upon your view the look that your after.

For quite some time now I have been trying to create a style / look that I use to use in the wet dark room, photoshop has a mind blowing amount of features and some you will never touch or even know what they do. I order to keep it simple I have now created my first ever action script (nope, sorry you can’t have a copy of it)

Having spent an alarming amount of time on this getting it right and perfecting the colours I can now show you an old photograph of the Brooklyn Bridge that I shot all the way back in 2007! (how time fly’s)

Halnaker Windmill

Posted in Night Time Photography on August 9th, 2009 by Jonathan

Wednesday night was the night before the full moon. For the people who don’t know Wayne and myself having been trying to crack moon lit landscapes for well over a year. I would hate to think how many cups of tea, BBQ’s, miles driven and hours spent of perfecting this type of photography.

We arrived mid evening and took the usual walk up to the windmill with what I could only I could describe a ton of kit, we don’t like to go out with out anything. Upon reaching the top and semi setting up we noticed out to sea rain was coming in, so after a long chat we decided to pack up and leave (big mistake) We want for a drive and then noticed the sky had cleared and the moon was super bright so back we went. This time we stripped our kit down to essential items only for a quick asscent to the top. I would like to add that most of you out there would have been asleep at this time of night!

The hours and hard work have paid off and the result is below, the idea behind this on going project was not to reveal the images until it was complete, I have been so excited about the results I want to share them with you all.

Posted in Canon Firmware Updates on August 9th, 2009 by Jonathan

For all of you Canon 50D owners out there Canon have launched a new firmware update.

The Firmware Version 1.0.7 incorporates the following changes.

1. Corrects a phenomenon where captured images may tend to appear somewhat magenta depending on the shooting scene.
2. Fixes incorrect indications on the Arabic, Romanian, Spanish, and Ukrainian menu screens.

Lowepro

Posted in Old Live Journal, Uncategorized on August 3rd, 2009 by Jonathan

Doing my usual walk around the Internet today I have discovered after some semi hard work and several emails to Lowepro they have now brought out a new range of backs that actually work in the photographers favour.

First of all the new Toploader series caught my eye, they have listen to photographers and changed the way the lid opens, instead of opening out from the body or towards the body (something of a huge inconvenience) The bag comes in 3 sizes and would suit anyone wishing to scale down their operation out in the field.
(this makes a break i.e. a line space!)
You can view the Toploader Pro 65 here
You can view the Toploader Pro 70 here
You can view the Toploader Pro 75 here

The second range that caught my eye was the NEW outback range, a bit like the Toploader series but they come with additional pouches for lens, slightly more expensive but if you don’t have sliplock cases then this is ideal. You can view the Outback Series here

As soon as I can get my hands on one to conduct a full report I shall let you know.

Tangmere

Posted in Urban Exporlation on August 2nd, 2009 by Jonathan

I have just added 12 new images and a second page to the Forgotten Britain gallery.

The first 6 images were taken in Tangmere (West Sussex) way back in 2007, sadly all of the buildings apart from the control tower have now been turned into a housing estate.

The second set of images were taken during a trip to Liverpool last year, the idea of the trip was to photograph Anthony Gormley’s “Another Place” but like the good old British weather it didn’t work out to well, by accident I we came across Stanley Docks, and old Tobacco warehouse that is part being being used as a market on a Sunday.
