Last Friday I went to a place called Orford Ness, but due to the fact that a filled a 4gb memory card it is taking me a lot longer than normal to edit the images. So here is a photograph of a Teasle that was taken on site (yes it is supposed to be out of focus)

Enjoy

Lake District (Part 1)

Posted in Old Live Journal, Uncategorized on September 21st, 2008 by Jonathan

Well I have just come back from a week in the Lake District (Cumbria) The weather wasn’t that kind with low level mist, rain and at times high wind.

The trip wasn’t with out other troubles as well, we checked in to the Langdale Estates Hotel only to discover that our rooms hadn’t been cleaned properly and half of the facilities were “temporary out of order” With a few complaints here and there, a free bottle of wine with dinner and flowers left in each room a day or so later every thing else seem to settle down. The food in the Terrace Bar was fantastic, the all you can eat breakfast very filling and the swimming pool (although a little cooler than than the 30c as advertise) was very good.

We managed a 2 low levels walks during the week and then myself, my dad & Simon on Thursday decided to go for the triple Pike O’ Blisco, Crinkle Crags & Bow Fell. The walk started out on the gentle stroll up the valley then a steepish incline up to Red Tarn where we mad out first ascent of the day to Pike O’ Blisco.

Our descent back to Red Tarn was via the southern side, a slightly of track walk back to the junction with Crinkle Crags. The trek up to the first “Crinkle” was a long steady climb pass Great Knott where the wind picked up! We made it to the top of the first Crinkle and had lunch in what little shelter we could find. After lunch we pushed on the short distance to the second Crinkle only to be met by the famous “Bad Step” now on any normal day I would have given this a shot, but with visibility low, the wind high and the rock wet and slippery we decided to take the long walk around to the summit.

We finished Crinkle Crags and ended up at Three Tarns, after a brief discussion it was decided that Simon would wait for us whilst my dad and myself walked up Bow Fell. The walk up to the summit from Three Tarns is hard with a steep incline and plenty of scree.

After the summit of Bow Fell we made our way back down to Red Tarn, met up with Simon and started our descent to Stool End and a nice cold pint at the “Old Dungeon Ghyll” Hotel (the walkers pub)

We had a great time up int he fells even though the weather was great, sorry about the quality of the photographs, I didn’t take my camera with me so had to borrow Simon’s.
