Good day to all you bloggers
Posted in Old Live Journal, Uncategorized on April 29th, 2007 by JonathanHope you are enjoying the weekend?
Saturday I spent half the day doing a job for my parents gardener, the guy love’s tea, i’m not going to turn down a cuppa (despite what the doc said!)
Evening wise I spent my time creating this for you all to look at:
“Spinnaker Tower” (Portsmouth, UK)
Hope you enjoy, a taste of things to come from my USA trip!
Ok time to answer Jenni’s and G’s question about the photographing between 11am – 3pm:
First of all these are “tips” rules are meant to be broken, push the boundaries and you might get good results.
The problem being the sun is high and harsh, the difference between light and shadow is to much for your little camera, somethings got to give and it’s the shadow detail that suffers or you get hot spots from the light. Also you get really uninteresting shadows, look at the photograph of the building in London and the lovely shadows of the pillars, (not shot between 11-3!)
1) if it is a sunny day they you are going to have problems with the shadows, but if time is not on your side, your at a place that you have no chance to go back to, or it’s a photo opportunity that cannot be missed then “yes” take the photograph, no is saying that you can’t but as a guide line “no way baby for me”
2) if the sky is sunny but is flat with cloud (as g asked) then you are still going to get problems, not as many but the sun still cast shadows.
3) if the sky is totally flat and boring then give up! Just kidding, go for a close cropped image, fill the frame more with the subject than the sky, like wise if the sky is great but the foreground boring do the opposite.
4) most important, have fun, and remember: if you want that perfect shot your going to have to work for it!
Have fun, comments to the usual, well comment thing underneath.
Till next time
Jonathan.
(p.s.) I’m going again tonight to get some different images
(p.p.s) we never finished of the fictitious names and where they come from, or did we? I know some did.
